Curvilinear Triangular Discretization of Biomedical Images

چکیده
Mesh generation is a useful tool for obtaining discrete descriptors of biological objects represented by images. The generation of meshes with straight sided elements has been fairly well understood. However, in order to match curved shapes that are ubiquitous in nature, meshes with high-order elements are required. Moreover, for the processing of large data sets, automatic meshing procedures are needed. In this work we present a new technique that allows for the automatic construction of high-order curvilinear meshes. This technique allows for a transformation of straight-sided meshes to curvilinear meshes with C smooth boundaries while keeping all elements valid as measured by their Jacobians. The technique is demonstrated with examples.

Automatic Curvilinear Quality Mesh Generation with Smooth Mesh Boundaries of Medical Images
The development of robust high-order finite element methods requires the curvilinear discretization for complex geometries without user intervention. In this work we present a new technique that allows for the automatic construction of high-order curvilinear meshes with two main features: first, the boundary of the mesh is globally smooth, i.e., it satisfies either the C 1 or the C 2 smoothness...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling and Analysis Mimetic Finite Differences for Modeling Stokes Flow on Polygonal Meshes
Stokes flow is fluid flow where advective inertial forces are negligibly small compared to viscous forces. This is a typical situation on a microscale or when the fluid velocity is very small. Stokes flow is a good and important approximation for a number of physical problems such as sedimentation, modeling of biosuspensions, construction of efficient fibrous filters, developing energy efficien...
متن کاملOn Analysis of Stress Concentration in Curvilinear Anisotropic Deformable Continuum Bodies
In cylindrical continua, hoop stresses are induced due to the circumferential failure. This mainly happens when the cylinder is subjected to mechanical loads which vary in the circumferential directions. On the other hand, radial stress is stress in the direction of or opposite to the central axis of a cylindrical body. In the present study, the influence of curvilinear anisotropy on the radial...

متن کاملCell-vertex discretization of shallow water equations on mixed unstructured meshes
Finite-volume discretizations can be formulated on unstructured meshes composed of different polygons. A staggered cell-vertex finite-volume discretization of shallow water equations is analyzed on mixed meshes composed of triangles and quads. Although triangular meshes are most flexible geometrically, quads are more efficient numerically and do not support spurious inertial modes of triangular...
